American Murray Grey Breeders Receive Special
Australian Honour

by Geoff Phillips, Australia

Two American Murray Grey Breeders have been made "Honorary Members for Life" of the Murray Grey Beef Cattle Society in Australia, the only two non-Australians ever to be honored with that award.  These two Americans join a very elite group of only six other living persons holding this prestigious level of membership.  In the Breed history there have only been 14 individuals ever to receive this special honor.

Luella Polette & Linda JensenLuella Polette, Bridger Mtn. Murray Greys, Bozeman, Montana, and Linda Jensen, Lindale Murray Greys, Glenns Ferry, Idaho, were presented with the awards during the International Murray Grey Congress at Billings, Montana, in October.

President of the Murray Grey Beef Cattle Society in Australia, Patrick Metcalfe, said the awards were made for outstanding contributions by both Luella and Linda.

President Metcalfe went on to explain, "Linda has long been an extremely strong supporter of the breed, but her work especially through her contribution to the advancement of the Australian developed BreedPlan Performance Recording Scheme and, more recently, her support of BreedPlan on an International level has been of extreme importance.  "The international expansion of the Australian developed Murray Grey breed and the international adoption of the breed's performance recording scheme, International Murray Grey Group BreedPlan, is imperative and the work Linda has done to assist this expansion is invaluable."   Linda has served on the American Murray Grey Board of Directors and is currently the President of the Northwest Murray Grey Association.  She has served as the American International Delegate for the breed for the past 4 years, traveling not only to Australia, but Canada and the United Kingdom.

President Metcalfe also expressed his most sincere appreciation to Luella for all the many years of endless service to the Murray Grey Breed and her wonderful job of organizing and chairing the 4th International Murray Grey Congress.  Luella's 20 year+ service to the Murray Grey Breed includes serving on the American Murray Grey Board of Directors in many positions, including being the Past President, and International Delegate traveling to Australia, Canada, and England.  Luella is currently Secretary of the Northwest Murray Grey Association.
